Utility Design Engineer – Dry Utilities & Subsurface Design

About the role

Egis is seeking a Utility Design Engineer to lead the detailed design and coordination of dry utility systems such as duct banks for electrical, telecommunications, and gas networks. The role focuses on projects within transportation and urban corridors, applying subsurface utility engineering principles to ensure high‑quality, conflict‑free designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed alignment, profile, section, and trench designs for dry utilities, integrating hydro, gas, and telecom networks.
• Apply subsurface utility engineering methods to assess data quality and support design decisions.
• Prepare engineering drawings, design reports, technical memos, quantity take‑offs, and cost estimates.
• Own QA/QC processes for design deliverables and ensure compliance with standards.
• Create 3D design models for clash detection and resolution using Civil 3D or equivalent software.
• Support the preparation of technical specifications and contract documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience on municipal or transportation infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to design dry utility systems, including electrical components.
• Experience with underground infrastructure (water, sanitary, storm, drainage).
• Strong communication skills and experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
