Underwriting Manager

About the role

Infrrd is seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead a team of underwriters and QC analysts in reviewing closed residential mortgage loans. The role ensures compliance with agency, investor and regulatory guidelines while driving quality and efficiency across multiple loan products.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the underwriting/QC team, including hiring, onboarding, training and shift planning.
• Conduct coaching, performance reviews and calibration sessions to maintain consistent decision‑making.
• Review, approve or escalate complex loan files for VA, FHA and Conventional products.
• Audit post‑closing QC reviews covering income, assets, credit, collateral and documentation.
• Own team SLAs such as quality accuracy, turnaround time, rework and defect rates.
• Lead corrective and preventive action initiatives and drive process improvements.
• Maintain 100% adherence to internal QC policies and track regulatory updates.
• Prepare and present team metrics to senior leadership and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or a related field.
• 6–8 years of experience in US residential mortgage underwriting and/or post‑closing QC.
• 2–3 years of supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• Hands‑on underwriting and QC review experience across VA, FHA and Conventional loans.

Required skills

• Knowledge of VA Lender’s Handbook (Pamphlet 26‑7).
• Familiarity with HUD Handbook 4000.1.
• Understanding of Fannie Mae Selling Guide and related investor guidelines.
