Staff Engineer - Performance

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer – Performance to lead the design and optimisation of data‑path and I/O components in large‑scale distributed file systems. The role combines deep low‑level code work with system‑wide performance analysis, ensuring high throughput and low latency at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise data‑path and I/O components for distributed file systems.
• Perform performance analysis, troubleshooting and optimisation across CPU, memory, storage and network layers.
• Implement performance‑aware improvements in C++ code and apply best practices for profiling, benchmarking and regression detection.
• Investigate and resolve complex system‑level performance issues in production environments.
• Collaborate with architects and cross‑functional teams to embed performance considerations into system design.

Required profile

• Accountable, highly motivated with strong people skills.
• 10+ years of system software development experience and complex problem resolution.
• Deep understanding of distributed file systems and scale‑out storage architectures.
• Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements in throughput, latency and scalability.

Required skills

• Expert‑level knowledge of data‑path and I/O path design and optimisation.
• Strong proficiency in C++ for performance‑critical code.
• Extensive experience with performance measurement techniques: profiling, tracing, benchmarking and custom tooling.
• Solid foundation in distributed systems principles such as scalability, concurrency and fault tolerance.
• Experience optimizing file system or storage system code at large scale.
