Staff Applied Scientist – Machine Learning

About the role

Cohere Health is seeking a Staff Applied Scientist to lead the design and scaling of machine‑learning capabilities across its clinical intelligence platform. The role blends hands‑on technical development with strategic influence, mentorship, and cross‑functional collaboration to improve healthcare workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and evaluate advanced ML systems for retrieval, classification, prediction, and generative use cases.
• Lead the full ML lifecycle—from experimentation and training to deployment, monitoring, and iteration—partnering with AI engineering.
• Write reusable code for data preprocessing, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Collaborate with product managers, clinicians, data engineers, and designers to translate business needs into robust ML solutions.
• Define problem statements, formulate hypotheses, and create rigorous evaluation frameworks tied to business outcomes.
• Present ML insights to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
• Mentor junior engineers on best practices, experimentation, and system design.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning or a related quantitative field.
• 7+ years of professional experience in applied machine learning or data science, with ownership of production ML systems.
• Strong communication skills and proven ability to work with product, business, and clinical partners.
