Software Engineer (Hardware, Networking & Storage)

About the role

NetApp is looking for a QEG Engineer (Software Engineer 3) in Bangalore to act as a senior technical contributor and de facto technical leader for the end-to-end development, validation and support of advanced on-prem technologies. The role goes beyond hands-on execution: it involves driving architectural decisions, setting technical direction across firmware, software and manufacturing boundaries, and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, validation and support of on-prem technologies, including firmware, software and manufacturing aspects
• Drive architectural decisions and set technical direction across teams
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct design and code reviews
• Represent technical decisions to stakeholders and influence direction across software, firmware and manufacturing teams
• Contribute to technical roadmaps, architecture reviews and strategic planning

Required profile

• Deep expertise in the software development lifecycle, test strategy design and quality ownership, able to define test plans and validation frameworks
• Proven track record of designing automation frameworks and strategies, not just writing scripts
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations independently and mentor engineers
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
• Typically 5 years of related experience (IC level); 3 years (Manager & Executive level)

Required skills

• Expert-level Python, C and C++ with strong software design sense
• Networking: TCP/IP stack, computer networks, NFS, SMB, iSCSI, FC
• OS internals: Linux, Unix, FreeBSD, kernel and networking, boot process, BIOS/UEFI, GRUB
• Storage and hardware: NAS, SAN, NVMe, PCIe, RAID, SSDs, iSCSI and NVMe over Fabric
• Understanding of AI/ML and GenAI architectures and prompt engineering
