Software Architect – Real‑time IoT Platform

About the role

Spiro is building the operating system for electric mobility across nine African markets. We need a Software Architect to lead the technical direction of a real‑time platform that connects battery swapping stations, fleet telematics, energy commerce and CRM.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end architecture for core domains such as asset registries, event pipelines, device security and data platforms.
• Design and evolve real‑time data, caching and resilience infrastructure to handle billions of events and over a million transactions daily.
• Define IoT security architecture, including certificate‑based device authentication and cryptographic signing.
• Produce low‑level designs, ADRs, API contracts and reference implementations.
• Review and unblock designs across engineering, flagging potential bottlenecks early.
• Partner with DevOps/Platform on multi‑account cloud infrastructure, balancing isolation, cost and simplicity.
• Mentor senior engineers in architectural thinking.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing large‑scale, high‑availability systems.
• Strong understanding of real‑time data pipelines and IoT device communication.
• Ability to make rigorous trade‑off decisions and document them clearly.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
