Site Reliability Engineer – Dedicated Hosted Runners

About the role

GitLab is seeking an intermediate Site Reliability Engineer to join the Runners Platform team. You will design, build, and operate the Hosted Runners service that powers GitLab Dedicated’s managed CI/CD compute platform across single‑tenant AWS environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operate AWS infrastructure for Hosted Runners, including EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, VPC networking, NAT, NACLs, PrivateLink, IAM, and ECR.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code using Terraform, contributing reusable modules and deployment tooling.
• Write Go code for runner tooling, autoscaling components, lifecycle plugins, and zero‑downtime deployment CLI.
• Build and improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines for blue/green deployments, automated upgrades, QA validation, and performance testing.
• Define, monitor, and report on service level objectives for CI job execution, such as queue times and success rates.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of experience in site reliability or DevOps engineering.
• Hands‑on experience managing production‑grade AWS services.
• Proficiency with infrastructure‑as‑code tools, especially Terraform.
• Strong programming skills in Go.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and GitLab pipelines.
