Senior Staff Engineer – Software Autonomy

About the role

The Senior Staff Software Engineer, Autonomy will function as a hands‑on technical lead and subject‑matter expert, collaborating with Shield AI teammates and customers to build edge‑AI and autonomy software for sea, air, and space platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design tactical autonomy algorithms that enable unmanned aircraft to execute complex missions across multiple domains with minimal human supervision.
• Develop high‑performance C++ software modules for planning, decision‑making, and behavior execution in dynamic, adversarial environments.
• Implement and test behavior architectures that support multi‑agent coordination, target engagement, reconnaissance, and survivability.
• Integrate autonomy solutions with hardware, work with cross‑functional teams, and conduct field testing and flight demos.
• Analyze mission logs and performance data to diagnose issues, optimize models, and drive iterative development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aerospace, AI, Computer Science, Robotics or a related engineering field.
• 12+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years writing software for autonomy/robotics applications.
• 2+ years experience in a startup environment.
• Fluent in Hindi and English with ability to travel across India/Asia and occasional trips to the USA.
