Senior R&D Engineer – Backend Services (Product Development)

About the role

AVEVA is seeking an experienced backend engineer to own service and storage layers for its enterprise product portfolio. The role focuses on delivering high‑performance, reliable, and secure capabilities for the PI Visualization team while working in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services, define API contracts, and build maintainable service architecture.
• Own storage and data‑access layers, including schema design, migrations, and data‑integrity strategies.
• Drive performance and scalability through profiling, query optimisation, caching, and capacity‑aware design.
• Ensure operational excellence with observability (logs, metrics, traces) and support incident triage.
• Strengthen CI/CD pipelines, enforce quality gates, and guarantee safe deployments and rollbacks.
• Apply secure‑by‑design practices, integrate authentication/authorization, and manage secrets.
• Lead technical quality through code reviews, testing strategies, and definition‑of‑done.
• Collaborate across teams, communicate technical decisions clearly, and mentor junior engineers.
• Document designs, deliver tech talks, and continuously deepen domain expertise.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven end‑to‑end ownership of medium‑to‑high complexity features.
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills in distributed service environments.
• Effective collaboration and communication within cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• C# and .NET framework for building Web API/REST services.
• SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL – schema design, indexing, query optimisation, transactions, migrations.
• CI/CD pipeline experience and release management.
