Senior Staff Software Engineer

About the role

SPAN is on a mission to electrify homes and accelerate clean energy adoption. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer you will be the master problem‑solver, breaking down complex, multi‑layered challenges into elegant, business‑aligned solutions. You will lead technically, influence key decisions and own end‑to‑end system design to ensure scalability, reliability and cost‑efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Distill complex technical challenges into simple, elegant solutions that meet core business goals.
• Influence high‑impact decisions and drive execution, solving critical issues hands‑on.
• Champion a “platform‑first” approach by consolidating tools and simplifying the technical stack.
• Design high‑performance cloud back‑ends, automated deployments, IaC and CI/CD pipelines for long‑term scalability.
• Build and maintain observability and cost‑optimization frameworks across cloud, mobile and edge services.
• Provide technical mentorship and conduct rigorous design reviews to enforce cloud‑native best practices.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in cloud architecture or DevOps roles.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross‑functional technical decisions.
• Experience architecting back‑ends for IoT and mobile applications.
• Deep expertise in cloud‑native services, event‑driven architectures and infrastructure as code.

Required skills

• Cloud native services (AWS Lambda/Functions, Kubernetes, NoSQL, event‑driven architecture).
• RESTful APIs, GraphQL and message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Scripting languages: Python, Bash.
• Containerisation with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Observability and cloud‑cost optimisation frameworks.
