Senior Auditor – Quality Assurance & Improvement Program

About the role

The Senior Auditor – Quality Assurance & Improvement Program (QAIP) supports the Internal Audit Group (IAG) by executing and enhancing the Quality Assurance and Improvement Program. The role conducts independent assessments of audit engagements, ensuring compliance with internal methodology, IIA Standards, and regulatory expectations while promoting consistency and continuous improvement across the audit function.

Key responsibilities

• Execute QA review activities throughout the lifecycle in line with American Express Internal Audit procedures, IIA Standards, and regulatory expectations.
• Perform independent assessments of audit engagements and IAG processes to verify adherence to methodology, documentation, and quality standards.
• Review prior QA results, audit documentation, and business monitoring materials to plan and scope reviews.
• Prepare clear, well‑supported QA workpapers using automated workpaper systems.
• Draft observations, findings, and reports that communicate condition, criteria, cause, risk, and recommended improvements.
• Validate Management Action Plans to ensure corrective actions are properly implemented.
• Identify emerging issues, themes, and risks and escalate them to QA management.
• Lead assigned review procedures or workstreams, manage deliverables, and communicate progress.

Required profile

• Senior‑level internal audit experience with a focus on quality assurance.
• Strong knowledge of IIA Standards and applicable regulatory expectations.
• Ability to evaluate audit documentation with professional skepticism and sound judgment.
• Proven capability to lead review workstreams and collaborate with audit teams.
• Familiarity with American Express’s business model, products, services, and risk profile.
