Receptionist/Clerical Officer for GP Out of Hours Service

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position supports the new GP Walk‑in Centre (WiC) that will operate as part of the GP Out of Hours (OOH) service in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Working part‑time (20 hours per week) on a job‑share basis, you will provide front‑of‑house and clerical support during the centre’s opening hours.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients and visitors, manage the reception desk and waiting area.
• Enter and update patient data, maintain accurate records and perform general typing tasks.
• Assist with patient flow, ensuring smooth transitions between waiting and clinical areas.
• Handle enquiries and support distressed or challenging patients in a calm, professional manner.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to uphold safety and administrative standards.

Required profile

• Secretarial qualification or equivalent administrative experience.
• Proven experience in a reception, front‑of‑house or clerical role.
• Understanding of patient flow and waiting‑room management in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to remain composed when dealing with upset or distressed service users.

Required skills

• Data entry and record‑keeping.
• Basic computer literacy for administrative tasks.
