Principal Engineer - HVAC (MEP)

About the role

Lead the HVAC design effort for large‑scale, mission‑critical projects within AECOM’s Global Design Center. You will drive technical excellence, mentor engineering teams, and ensure delivery of sustainable, high‑performance solutions for data‑centers, healthcare facilities and other complex environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC design packages and provide technical oversight on complex projects.
• Manage design quality, conduct technical reviews, and coordinate with clients to ensure successful project delivery.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams, fostering technical excellence.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• 12‑15 years of HVAC design engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• 6‑7 years experience in a Global Design Center delivering international projects.
• Proven experience in data‑center or healthcare facility design is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Carrier HAP for cooling and heating load calculations.
• Working knowledge of IES‑VE for energy modeling and building performance analysis.
• Experience with Revit MEP, AutoCAD and BIM workflows for multidisciplinary coordination.
• Strong knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IMC and other international design codes.
• Design expertise in chilled water plants, air‑side HVAC, CRAH/CRAC systems, ventilation, pressurization and smoke management.
