Mechanical Design Engineer – Transformers

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Global Engineering Center in Vadodara, India. You will be part of an international team focused on the design and development of oil‑filled distribution transformers up to 25 MVA, ensuring products meet customer requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design active parts, windings, tanks and external components for 25 MVA, 36 kV transformers, adhering to IEEE, IEC and IS guidelines.
• Prepare customer documentation, manufacturing drawings, bills of material and submit them according to project schedules.
• Perform mechanical calculations, thermal, dielectric, short‑circuit and acoustic performance analyses.
• Coordinate design activities across a global network of factories and participate in internal design reviews.
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations, procedures and safety standards.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–8 years of experience in mechanical design for oil‑filled distribution transformers.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional and geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong understanding of transformer mechanics, standards and design best practices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD and 3D modelling software (Creo preferred).
• Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, IS and Canadian standards.
• Experience in transformer mechanical design, mechanical calculations and dielectric analysis.
• Familiarity with clearance/creepage assessment and simulation tools.
• Competence in Microsoft Office and strong written and spoken English.
