Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

You will join Hitachi Energy’s Global Engineering Center as a Mechanical Design Engineer, contributing to the design of oil‑filled distribution transformers up to 25 MVA, 36 kV. The role involves collaborating with international teams to deliver compliant, high‑quality transformer designs.

Key responsibilities

• Generate active part, windings, tank and external designs that meet factory limits, guidelines, and IEEE/IEC/IS standards.
• Prepare customer documentation, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material and submit them according to project schedules.
• Coordinate design activities across a worldwide network of factories.
• Participate in internal design concept reviews and ensure compliance with external and internal regulations.
• Support team building and networking with technical teams in different regions.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–8 years of experience in mechanical design for oil‑filled or dry power transformers.
• Strong understanding of transformer mechanics, thermal performance, dielectrics, short‑circuit and acoustic behavior.
• Ability to work effectively with global technical teams and communicate in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD and 3D modelling software (e.g., Creo).
• Knowledge of transformer design, mechanical calculations, dielectrics, clearance/creepage, and basic layout.
• Familiarity with IS, IEC, IEEE and Canadian standards.
• Experience in winding, tank and external design is an advantage.
• Experience with simulation tools or software development is beneficial.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
