Manufacturing Engineer - Metals

About the role

Exponent Energy is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer (Metals) in Bengaluru to join its Manufacturing Engineering & Supplier Development team. The team develops and industrialises metal components for EV battery systems, chargers and energy products, building strong manufacturing processes with supplier partners. The role bridges metallurgy, manufacturing engineering and supplier development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of metal components across welding, extrusion, machining, castings (HPDC/LPDC), sheet metal forming, laser cutting and bending
• Support EV-specific components such as cold plates, deep-drawn tubs and enclosures, busbars and structural/thermal management parts
• Work with design teams on manufacturability and process feasibility, and ensure components meet dimensional, cosmetic, structural and functional requirements
• Apply metallurgy fundamentals for material selection, weldability and material interaction between alloys and processes
• Develop advanced joining technologies such as friction stir welding, diffusion welding and laser welding
• Work with suppliers to build manufacturing capability, support process setup, validation and production readiness, and run process audits, capability studies and manufacturability reviews
• Resolve quality and process issues within tight timelines and ensure repeatability and traceability controls
• Improve process capability (Cp/Cpk), drive quality, yield and throughput improvements, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in metal manufacturing, fabrication or supplier process development
• Experience working with suppliers and external manufacturing partners
• Preferred: EV battery pack, thermal systems or power electronics manufacturing experience, and exposure to aluminium alloys, copper busbars and thermal management systems

• Preferred: GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA, APQP, PFMEA and manufacturing quality systems
