Mainframe Host Network Support (HNS) – SME

About the role

As a Mainframe Host Network Support (HNS) Subject Matter Expert at Kyndryl, you will troubleshoot complex mainframe networking issues, ensure performance and security of communication subsystems, and guide clients through modernization initiatives. You will work with a variety of industries, providing end‑to‑end support for z/OS communication components and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide end‑to‑end incident resolution, problem management and performance optimisation for Mainframe Host Network Systems.
• Administer and maintain z/OS Communication Server components, including VTAM and TCP/IP stack.
• Perform advanced problem determination using traces, dumps and logs, and manage Policy Agent (PAGENT) configurations.
• Analyse and resolve network connectivity, latency and performance issues across host systems.
• Conduct network trace analysis (IP, packet, VTAM) to diagnose complex issues.
• Participate in project implementations, migrations and transformation initiatives involving host networking.
• Ensure system stability, security and compliance for communication subsystems.
• Collaborate with z/OS system programmers, storage, distributed teams and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Subject Matter Expert experience in mainframe host network support.
• Strong background with z/OS Communication Server, VTAM and TCP/IP networking.
• Proven ability to perform detailed trace and log analysis.
• Experience working in client‑facing environments and delivering solutions across multiple industries.
