Legal Associate

About the role

The Legal Associate will provide end‑to‑end legal support to a major bank, covering corporate, commercial, lending, regulatory, and dispute matters. The role involves drafting and vetting agreements, advising business units, mitigating legal risks, managing litigation, and ensuring compliance with banking laws and RBI guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business, risk, compliance, credit and operations teams to structure and document transactions while safeguarding the bank’s interests.
• Draft, review and negotiate facility agreements, security documents, pledge deeds, mortgages and inter‑creditor arrangements.
• Interpret RBI Master Directions, circulars, KYC/AML rules and embed legal safeguards into new product features.
• Map and prioritize critical cases in DRT, NCLT, High Courts, consumer forums, arbitrations and criminal complaints.
• Assist senior legal leadership in policy development, compliance with bank legal policies and creation of local procedures.
• Prepare advisories, FAQs and other guidance notes for internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) with a focus on banking or corporate law.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial and lending agreements.
• Strong knowledge of RBI regulations, KYC/AML requirements and Indian banking law.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional teams and manage multiple legal matters simultaneously.
