Lead Data Engineer – Java Focus

About the role

Cermati, a fast‑growing fintech startup, is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to head its data platform team in Bangalore. The role blends senior engineering responsibilities with people and project management.

Key responsibilities

• People management: conduct performance reviews, 1:1 sessions, mentoring and career development for 5‑10 engineers.
• Project management: estimate timelines, plan projects, ensure deadlines are met and unblock developers.
• Technical roadmap: collaborate with senior engineers to define and execute the data platform roadmap.
• On‑call and operational excellence: establish rotation, monitoring and alerting processes.
• Hands‑on coding and system design for selected features.

Required profile

• Based in Bangalore (relocation required if not already there).
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on Java experience in large enterprise projects.
• Strong leadership mindset with the ability to make tough decisions and incorporate feedback.
• Deep knowledge of Linux system programming and performance monitoring.
• Solid experience with SQL and PostgreSQL databases.
