Heavy Equipment Operator II

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Operator II is responsible for safely operating and maintaining a variety of municipal sanitation equipment. This full‑time, onsite position supports the Sanitation Department by ensuring equipment is ready for daily use and that work sites are serviced efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Operate front, side, end loaders, residential side loaders, roll‑off trucks, roll‑off compactors, bulldozers, backhoes and street sweepers.
• Drive equipment to assigned work sites and perform routine pre‑operation checks.
• Lubricate moving parts, check fluid levels (steering gear, transmission, differential, radiator) and maintain tire pressure.
• Refuel equipment with the proper fuel at the start of each shift.
• Complete maintenance logs, record usage, and submit routine reports.
• Identify excessive wear or broken parts and report them using the appropriate forms.
• Clean equipment as required and perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• 1‑3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a municipal or construction setting.
• Familiarity with the geography of the City of Mission.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.
