Head of Legal – Real Estate Litigation

About the role

The Head of Legal will lead all legal matters for a real‑estate portfolio in Mumbai and Thane, ensuring compliance with local statutes and protecting the company’s interests. This senior position reports directly to the COO and works closely with internal heads of departments and external counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with in‑house heads of departments and external law firms, attend conferences, and update senior management on case progress.
• Prepare legal briefs, fact sheets, and concise notes for each matter; draft and file applications, replies, and correspondence with authorities such as RERA, police stations, SRA, MCGM, and TMC.
• Appear before courts and quasi‑judicial bodies (High Court, City Civil Court, Small Causes Courts, Magistrate Courts, Consumer Courts, etc.) on behalf of the company.
• Interpret land records (7/12 extracts, mutation entries, orders under sections 32G, 32M, 43 of BTAL) and recommend protective legal actions.
• Maintain a Legal Management Information System (MIS), conduct legal research, and manage follow‑up with external advocates.
• Negotiate out‑of‑court settlements and stay updated on recent judgments, circulars, and changes in real‑estate law.

Required profile

• LL.B. or LL.M. with 15–20 years of overall legal experience, including at least 10 years in Mumbai real‑estate matters.
• Strong expertise in SRA project litigation, Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Bombay Tenancy & Agricultural Lands Act, and RERA regulations.
• Proven track record handling legal matters for Mumbai and Thane, including drafting, vetting, and documentation.
• Residence in Central Suburbs or a commute of one hour or less to Sion preferred.
