Head of Accounts Payable

About the role

The Head of Accounts Payable will lead the end‑to‑end AP function for a global insurance shared services centre in Pune. Reporting to senior finance leadership, this role ensures accurate, efficient and compliant processing of invoices, payments and vendor relationships across multiple legal entities and currencies.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full Accounts Payable cycle – invoice processing, vendor management, payments, reconciliations and reporting.
• Deliver AP services for several legal entities in a complex, multi‑currency environment.
• Serve as the primary contact for on‑shore stakeholders in the US, UK and other regions, building strong partnerships.
• Drive continuous improvement, automation, standardisation and process optimisation initiatives.
• Maintain robust internal controls, compliance and audit readiness.
• Monitor, report and enhance KPIs and SLAs for the function.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing AP team.
• Act as the front‑facing leader, influencing stakeholders and challenging existing processes.
• Oversee vendor management and ensure timely query resolution.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CA, ICWA, CIMA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent).
• 10‑15+ years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably in shared services or global delivery models.
• Background in the insurance and legal industries.
• Proven experience managing AP across multiple legal entities and currencies.
• Demonstrated ability to work with international stakeholders (US, UK and others).
• Track record of delivering process improvements, automation and standardisation.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
