Harness Engineer - EV, Battery and Charger Applications

About the role

Exponent Energy, co-founded by former Ather Energy leaders, builds the e-pack (battery pack), e-port (charging connector), e-plug (connector) and e-pump (charging station) to enable 15-minute rapid charging. It is looking for a Harness Engineer to join its Research and Development team in Bengaluru, working on electric vehicle, battery and charger applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design wiring harnesses for EV, battery and charger applications.
• Select cables based on current rating, voltage class, temperature, flexibility and environmental conditions.
• Choose crimp terminals, lugs and connectors according to electrical, mechanical and reliability needs.
• Create 2D harness drawings, schematics and BOMs.
• Define crimping specs, wire routing, protection (conduits, tapes, grommets) and sealing strategies.
• Work with electrical, mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and ease of assembly.
• Validate designs through DFMEA, testing and field feedback.
• Ensure compliance with automotive standards (ISO, AIS, LV, etc.) and safety requirements.
• Support prototype builds, troubleshooting and root cause analysis of field issues.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals such as current carrying capacity, voltage drop, insulation and derating.
• Hands-on knowledge of cable types (PVC, XLPE, XLPO, shielded, high-voltage).
• Experience with crimp terminal selection, crimping processes and failure modes.
• Good understanding of connector systems, including automotive connectors, sealing classes and IP ratings.
• First-principles thinking, away from catalog-only or legacy designs.
• Experience with automotive or EV systems preferred.

Required skills

• Familiarity with wiring harness design tools such as Rapid Harness and Solidworks.
• Attention to detail, structured problem-solving and resilience through failures.
