FPSO Cargo Operator

About the role

The FPSO Cargo Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cargo handling systems on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel. Reporting to the FPSO Cargo Supervisor, the role ensures that crude oil loading, discharge, and related processes are carried out in accordance with operational procedures and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and control cargo system line‑up, including heating coils, inert gas, drains, ballast valves, and crude oil washing equipment.
• Run cargo pumps and crude oil wash machines as directed by the supervisor or superintendent.
• Manage tank filling and discharge, monitoring ullage levels, interfaces, temperatures and taking crude oil samples.
• Perform first‑line maintenance on pump‑room equipment and assist mechanics and welders when required.
• Maintain cargo and ballast equipment such as ullage gauges, inert gas valves, COW machines and hoses.
• Ensure compliance with permit‑to‑work systems and isolation standards.
• Support offloading operations and contribute to fiscal metering and sampling system activities.
• Carry out general housekeeping and stop work if safety is compromised.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience as a Pumpman on crude oil tankers or 1 year as an Engine Room fitter with proven pump and valve overhauling ability.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely in offshore environments.
• FPSO experience is desirable.

Required skills

• Operation of cargo pumps and crude oil wash machines.
• Control of tank filling/discharge parameters (ullage, temperature, interfaces).
• First‑line maintenance of pump‑room and cargo equipment.
• Handling of inert gas systems, COW machines and ballast valves.
• Use of fiscal metering and sampling equipment.
• Adherence to permit‑to‑work and isolation procedures.
