Duty Medical Officer – Hospital

About the role

The hospital is seeking a dedicated Duty Medical Officer to provide comprehensive patient care across outpatient, inpatient, emergency and intensive care units. The role involves rapid assessment, treatment, and coordination of medical services to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Examine and treat patients in OP, IP, ER, and ICU settings.
• Manage medical emergencies, trauma, cardiac events, and poisoning cases.
• Assess patients for admission and prepare discharge instructions under consultant guidance.
• Coordinate care with consultants, nursing staff, laboratory, pharmacy and other departments.
• Monitor admitted patients, track vital signs, treatment progress and complications.
• Maintain accurate patient case sheets, medico‑legal records and duty reports.
• Perform basic procedures such as IV line insertion, suturing, catheterisation and CPR.
• Handle medico‑legal cases including accidents, poisonings and police‑related incidents.
• Respond promptly to emergency code calls within the hospital.
• Communicate patient conditions and treatment plans to patients and attendants when required.

Required profile

• MBBS degree from a recognised medical college.
• Completed compulsory rotatory internship.
• Valid registration with the National Medical Commission or State Medical Council.
• Will report to the Medical Superintendent, Chief Medical Officer or Hospital Administration.

Required skills

• IV line insertion.
• Suturing.
• Catheterisation.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency management.
• Documentation of medico‑legal cases.
• Effective patient and attendant communication.
