Domestic Assistant / Porter – NHS Scotland

About the role

The Facilities Department at Borders General Hospital is seeking a Domestic Assistant/Porter to join a dedicated team delivering cleaning and portering services across the hospital. This permanent role works Monday to Friday and supports the delivery of a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide cleaning services across the hospital premises, adhering to infection‑control standards.
• Perform portering duties such as transporting equipment, linen, waste and supplies.
• Assist with preparing clinical rooms and ensuring they meet operational requirements.
• Support the Facilities Department in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic and cleaning activities.
• Flexibility to adapt to varied tasks and shifting priorities.
• Understanding of the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework and commitment to its values.
• Availability to work the specified Monday‑Friday shift patterns.

Required skills

• Knowledge of hospital cleaning protocols and health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Basic operation of cleaning equipment and transport trolleys.
