Director of Medical Safety

About the role

The Director of Medical Safety will lead IQVIA’s medical safety function, overseeing the safety monitoring of clinical trials and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and good clinical practice standards. This senior position requires strategic oversight, collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and a commitment to protecting patient health throughout the drug development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and leadership for medical safety activities across multiple clinical programs.
• Ensure compliance with federal, local, and industry regulations governing clinical research and patient safety.
• Oversee safety data collection, assessment, and reporting to regulatory authorities.
• Collaborate with clinical, regulatory, and project teams to integrate safety considerations into study designs.
• Manage financial and project resources associated with medical safety functions.
• Serve as a primary medical safety consultant to internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited institution with a valid medical license in the country of residence.
• Minimum of five years practicing clinical medicine and at least five years of experience in medical safety or medical monitoring within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.
• Strong leadership and relationship‑building skills with internal teams and external clients.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of federal and local regulations related to clinical research and safety.
• Understanding of good clinical practice (GCP) and safety monitoring processes.
• Experience in financial and project management within a medical safety context.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
