Data Engineer (Data Intelligence)

About the role

Chalhoub Group's Capability Hub, its technology and innovation hub, is hiring a Data Engineer (Data Intelligence) in Bangalore. The role focuses on building and deploying machine learning and generative AI features, including model inference endpoints and GenAI tools, and collaborating with senior engineers and data engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Implement machine learning algorithms and feature stores, and build and deploy model inference endpoints via REST APIs into production.
• Develop and test prompt templates for internal generative AI tools on the company's enterprise GenAI platform (Alia).
• Build and integrate generative AI features using LLM APIs and frameworks, including basic retrieval-augmented generation components.
• Prepare and engineer features from structured and semi-structured datasets using Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn).
• Train, evaluate and tune models using accuracy, precision and recall, and support MLOps pipelines and model versioning on cloud AI platforms such as Azure AI, Google Vertex AI and AWS SageMaker.
• Monitor deployed models for performance and drift, document model implementations, experiments and test results, and collaborate with senior engineers and data engineering teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in machine learning or AI engineering.
• Experience building and deploying model inference endpoints via REST APIs.
• Experience with structured and semi-structured data and feature engineering.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
• Solid SQL skills for databases and cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery and Snowflake.
• Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini) and basic RAG concepts.
• Exposure to LangChain or LlamaIndex and vector databases.
• Working knowledge of cloud AI platforms, model evaluation metrics and basic MLOps concepts.
