Data Analyst – Consumer Spend Research

About the role

We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our Consumer Spend Research team in Kolkata. The role combines deep analysis of US credit‑card transaction data with building and maintaining data pipelines, giving you ownership of end‑to‑end data products.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse US consumer credit‑card spend data to uncover patterns, anomalies and actionable insights.
• Research and map brands and merchants using online sources to ensure high‑accuracy classification.
• Produce clear analytical reports and insight summaries for client‑facing stakeholders.
• Develop, test and maintain ETL/ELT scripts in Python and SQL under senior engineering guidance.
• Support data workflows orchestrated with Apache Airflow and monitor jobs on AWS services (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift).
• Implement data quality checks, reconciliation routines and alerting mechanisms.

Required profile

• Graduate degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics or related); 1‑3 years of experience in data analysis, data engineering or market research.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to conduct online research and resolve ambiguous records.
• Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate findings to client‑side stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.

Required skills

• Python (including pandas) for data ingestion, cleaning and enrichment.
• Advanced SQL (joins, window functions, aggregations, optimisation).
• Regular expressions for pattern matching and data classification.
• AWS services: S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift.
• Apache Airflow or comparable orchestration tool.
• Git version‑control and collaborative development workflows.
