Controls Engineer – Automation & Robotics

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Controls Engineer to design, develop, and maintain control systems for automated machinery, robotics, and production cells. The role involves both hardware and software selection, system architecture creation, and performance optimisation while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement control systems, including PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI solutions.
• Select and specify control hardware, sensors, actuators, and Allen‑Bradley PLCs (SLC 500, CompactLogix, MicroLogix).
• Create system architecture, electrical schematics, and control software using Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
• Oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control equipment.
• Provide ongoing maintenance, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to integrate controls into larger projects.
• Maintain technical documentation, manuals, and performance reports.
• Research and apply new technologies to improve system efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, ISO, OSHA standards and integrate safety features such as emergency shutdowns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in control systems, automation, and instrumentation.
• Proven expertise with Allen‑Bradley PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI platforms.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
• Allen‑Bradley PLC families (SLC 500, CompactLogix, MicroLogix).
• SCADA, DCS and HMI development.
• Electrical schematics, sensors, actuators, and control principles.
• Ethernet/IP and other industrial network communication protocols.
• Advanced troubleshooting and debugging techniques.
