Applied Data Scientist

About the role

Shift5 is looking for an Applied Data Scientist to join its growing Data Science team. You will work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to uncover critical insights, turn complex business problems into testable hypotheses, and deliver end‑to‑end data‑science solutions that become part of Shift5’s core product suite.

Key responsibilities

• Own data‑science projects from problem definition through hypothesis testing to actionable deliverables.
• Transform one‑off customer insights into reusable components for Shift5’s core products.
• Collaborate with analysts, deployment strategists, and engineers to translate analyses into immediate customer value.
• Perform advanced statistical and time‑series analyses on operational data.
• Work with programmers and leadership to identify process improvements and define long‑term data strategies.

Required profile

• Proactive in identifying critical questions and customer needs, often before they are articulated.
• Comfortable breaking down ambiguous problems into manageable parts and executing independently.
• Excellent communicator who can translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time within the United States.

Required skills

• Fluency in Python, SQL, R, or Matlab.
• Strong data‑analysis abilities, including hypothesis design and statistical testing.
• Experience with time‑series data is a plus.
