Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Cohere Health is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of large‑scale, distributed applications for its core data and AI platforms. This senior technical leader will shape architecture, write high‑quality code, and mentor engineers while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive architecture of cloud‑native, distributed systems across the Cohere platform.
• Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code in Python, Java, TypeScript/React.
• Lead development of core features and APIs that serve providers, payers, and patients.
• Partner with DevOps and Data teams to ensure scalability, observability, and operational readiness.
• Embed automated testing, monitoring, and release safeguards into the development lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and promote engineering best practices such as CI/CD and release management.

Required profile

• 13+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a staff/principal/lead role.
• Proven expertise in designing and scaling distributed, cloud‑native applications.
• Strong background in modern languages such as Python, Java, and TypeScript/React.
• Experience working in healthcare technology or other regulated environments.
• Demonstrated success mentoring and growing engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills for influencing technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
