Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build and operate large-scale distributed systems that power Coupang’s e-commerce platform. In this role you will work across multiple geographic locations, delivering high-availability services that impact tens of millions of users daily.

• Drive the highest quality of architecture and system design.
• Define roadmaps and vision for scalable, robust product growth.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to make the platform open and extensible for innovation.
• Lead mission-critical projects and align with stakeholders.
• Decompose complex problems into simple, actionable solutions.
• Apply internal and industry best practices in design.
• Deep-dive into and resolve critical system issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• At least 8 years of software design and development experience.
• Hands-on experience building scalable, highly available systems.
• Proven large-system architecture design expertise.
• Experience with cloud computing on AWS.
• Experience developing container-based testing environments.
• Familiarity with Java, IntelliJ and Spring ecosystems.
