Sr. Software Engineer - Observability

About the role

Databricks builds and runs a large‑scale data and AI platform used by thousands of organizations worldwide. The Observability team ensures the health and performance of this platform by providing deep insights into system behavior. As a Senior Software Engineer you will design and implement observability solutions that help engineers monitor and troubleshoot our services.

Key responsibilities

• Establish standards for logging, metrics, and tracing across the platform.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to define and expose meaningful performance metrics.
• Build tooling and infrastructure for efficient metric emission, aggregation, storage, dashboarding, and alerting.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability of observability systems.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and work to reduce incident response times.
• Optimize platform costs by analyzing expenses, enforcing retention policies, streamlining queries, and right‑sizing resources.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of production‑level experience with languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or C++.
• Proven experience building software for large‑scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with metrics collection, health monitoring, and observability tooling.
