Software Expert / Software Architect

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a seasoned Software Expert/Software Architect to design and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable software solutions for its semiconductor equipment portfolio. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into robust architectural designs while driving innovation in AI and machine learning‑enabled tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑performance software components and micro‑service architectures.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and produce high‑level and low‑level designs.
• Develop quick prototypes to validate designs and provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
• Conduct technical reviews, mitigate risks, and ensure adherence to clean‑code and SOLID principles.
• Mentor Tech Leads and software engineers, fostering best practices and continuous learning.

Required profile

• 12‑18 years of experience with a B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science.
• 10+ years of product development experience, including 10+ years in core Java.
• Proven track record as a Software Architect or similar senior role.
• Strong algorithmic and data‑structure knowledge.

Required skills

• Core Java (streams, functional programming, virtual threads)
• Spring Boot and related Spring ecosystem
• Microservices architecture and large‑scale system design
• Workflow frameworks such as Temporal or Apache Airflow
• Reactive programming
• Algorithms and data‑structures
