Software Engineer II – Managed Kubernetes Products

About the role

Join DigitalOcean’s App Platform and Functions team to build and operate the control plane and runtime systems that power managed Kubernetes‑backed PaaS and serverless compute services. You will work on high‑reliability, multi‑tenant platforms that enable developers to ship modern applications at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Implement new features and bug fixes for App Platform and Functions services using Go.
• Develop and maintain gRPC and HTTP APIs, reconciliation loops, and lifecycle workflows for customer applications.
• Work with Kubernetes‑backed infrastructure to improve deployment, networking, autoscaling, and controller behavior.
• Enhance Functions runtime performance, isolation, and reliability for event‑driven workloads.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, investigate production incidents, and write runbooks.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of software engineering experience delivering production services.
• Proficiency in Go or another typed systems language with the ability to ramp quickly.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes concepts such as Deployments, Services, Controllers/Operators, and resource limits.
• Understanding of distributed systems principles including replication, latency trade‑offs, and failure modes.
• Experience with containerized microservices, SQL databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and gRPC is a plus.
