Senior Staff Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

We are hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Databricks' Engineering team, reporting to an Engineering Leader. You will join the Databricks engineering organization in Bengaluru, building and scaling backend products used by thousands of enterprises worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate a highly scalable, fault‑tolerant engine that processes hundreds of terabytes of data daily for thousands of customers.
• Perform low‑level systems debugging, performance measurement, and optimization on large production clusters.
• Lead architecture design, influence product road‑maps, and own new projects from concept to production.
• Investigate and prevent production issues, ensuring stability and reliability at massive scale.
• Plan and drive complex technical projects across multiple teams, acting as a technical lead and mentor.

Required profile

• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven ability to work toward a multi‑year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Strong motivation to deliver customer value and measurable impact.
• Solid foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real‑world applications.
• Experience driving company‑wide initiatives that improve customer satisfaction.
