Senior Staff Backend Engineer – Service Mesh

About the role

Coupang is seeking a Senior Staff Backend Engineer with deep expertise in large‑scale microservices and Service Mesh. You will design the architecture and lead the delivery of a modern platform that powers all of Coupang’s services, collaborating with multiple platform teams.

Key responsibilities

• Build Service Mesh components and drive their adoption across the organization.
• Design and implement backend APIs using Java SpringBoot, REST, and Hibernate, and develop infrastructure components in Go.
• Architect workload and service‑management infrastructure, creating critical distributed system components.
• Decompose complex problems into simple, scalable solutions while adhering to Coupang’s leadership principles.
• Ensure operational excellence by proactively addressing system issues and improving reliability.
• Collaborate with technical leaders to make services extensible and enable future innovations.

Required profile

• 13+ years of professional software development experience.
• At least 4 years designing and developing large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven experience delivering traffic‑management solutions that handle high request volumes.
• Strong development skills in Go, Java, and Python with a track record of mission‑critical systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
