Senior Software Engineer II - User & Accounts Systems

About the role

DigitalOcean is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II to join the User & Account Systems team, which owns core primitives such as Teams, Organizations, Projects, and Tags that millions of customers interact with daily. The role involves setting technical direction for account management at cloud scale and influencing cross‑org decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Define platform architecture for account management primitives and set multi‑year technical strategy.
• Lead cross‑domain architectural decisions with Identity, Billing and AI/ML teams.
• Own console platform strategy for notifications, reporting and dashboards.
• Establish sustaining engineering standards for technical debt, security and operational hygiene.
• Design systems and data models that handle millions of events per second at global scale.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering cloud‑scale distributed systems.
• Expert‑level proficiency in Go and strong JavaScript/Node.js skills.
• Proven ability to design high‑throughput, multi‑region systems.
• Deep hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, Chef).
• Strong communication skills to drive technical consensus across organizations.
