Senior Software Engineer II - Audit & Logging

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to join our Audit Logging & Security Visibility team. This team builds systems that record and surface security‑relevant activity across DigitalOcean's cloud platform, enabling customers and internal teams to detect threats, investigate incidents, and prove compliance at billions of events per day.

Key responsibilities

• Define the multi‑year technical strategy for audit logging, SIEM integration, and security visibility, designing for hyperscale event volumes.
• Lead cross‑domain architecture decisions linking audit, IAM, threat detection, and platform engineering.
• Own the long‑term architecture for the Unified Security Dashboard and integrations with Splunk, Datadog, Chronicle, and Sentinel.
• Set and enforce logging schema standards, event taxonomy, and operational hygiene across the domain.
• Mentor senior engineers on system design, security engineering, and technical communication.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in audit logging, security telemetry, or high‑throughput data pipelines at cloud or enterprise scale.
• Proven ability to design and operate high‑throughput streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, Flink) with guaranteed delivery and multi‑region resilience.
• Strong understanding of audit requirements for SOC 2, ISO 27001, and related compliance frameworks.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, SQL, and columnar data stores at platform scale.

Required skills

• Go (expert level) and gRPC‑based service design.
• Kafka and Flink for streaming data pipelines.
• SIEM integrations such as Splunk, Datadog, Chronicle, Sentinel.
• Kubernetes, Terraform, SQL, and analytical/columnar data stores.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, OCSF, or other security telemetry standards (nice to have).
