Senior Software Engineer I – Mongo/Aiven KTLO

About the role

DigitalOcean is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I to own the control plane of its Mongo/Aiven DBaaS platform. You will work with a mixed‑skill team to simplify the developer experience and deliver reliable, scalable database services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the control plane for a cloud DBaaS platform.
• Build highly scalable distributed systems and database engine controls for provisioning, scaling, and backup.
• Implement world‑class telemetry and logging to generate proactive alerts.
• Orchestrate complex workflows across multiple database engines.
• Automate operational playbooks for upgrades, security patching, and maintenance.
• Stay current with cloud‑native infrastructure, Kubernetes operators, and DBaaS trends to shape long‑term strategy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering cloud‑scale distributed systems, especially data and OLTP databases.
• Strong knowledge of Golang, gRPC, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
• Preferred experience with orchestration engines such as Temporal and operational work with MongoDB.
• Systems thinking and the ability to hold strong opinions while staying adaptable.
