Senior Software Engineer I, Compute

About the role

DigitalOcean is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I to join its Compute team in Bengaluru. You will work on high‑throughput microservices and core infrastructure that power the next generation of cloud compute services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑performance distributed control‑plane services using Go to ensure low‑latency, fault‑tolerant orchestration.
• Lead technical execution from design to release for complex project workstreams, delivering predictable business outcomes.
• Develop scalable microservice interfaces with gRPC and REST to maintain reliable service contracts.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through guidance and structured code reviews.
• Solve complex distributed‑systems edge cases and operational bottlenecks to maximize uptime.
• Identify architectural inefficiencies and continuously refine build pipelines and service boundaries.
• Participate in on‑call operational support and system monitoring to troubleshoot production incidents.

Required profile

• Experience with Go, microservices architecture, and building distributed control‑plane or low‑latency infrastructure APIs.
• Hands‑on experience with containerization, virtualization, or cloud‑native technologies such as Kubernetes or Firecracker.
• Deep understanding of distributed‑systems principles, concurrency patterns, and network performance tuning in Linux environments.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects, break problems into deliverable features, and mentor engineers.
