Senior Software Engineer – API & Backend (Open Finance Europe)

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Open Finance Europe – Connectivity team. You will design, build, and operate secure, scalable API integrations with financial institutions across Europe, ensuring high‑quality backend services in production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and support scalable APIs and backend services.
• Contribute to system design decisions focusing on scalability, resilience, and performance.
• Deliver production‑ready code across the full software development lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues to maintain system stability.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices.
• Implement testing strategies (unit, integration, end‑to‑end).
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, and SRE teams.
• Improve observability, automation, and operational efficiency.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience building cloud‑based, distributed backend systems.
• Expertise in API development, scalability, and production support.
• Solid understanding of SDLC, testing practices, and secure coding principles.
• Proven ability to own and deliver components/services independently.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
