Seasonal Municipal Service Laborer

About the role

This seasonal position supports the City’s public works department by performing a wide range of maintenance, waste‑collection, and grounds‑keeping tasks across streets, parks, cemeteries, and municipal facilities. The role is essential for keeping public spaces clean, safe, and functional during peak seasonal periods.

Key responsibilities

• Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment; operate non‑CDL trucks and other vehicular equipment.
• Clean sidewalks, driveways, bridge decks, garage areas, and restroom facilities; remove graffiti and litter.
• Perform routine building maintenance, including floor, window, and wall cleaning.
• Maintain landscaped areas—mow, trim, weed, seed, water, and prune trees and shrubbery.
• Assist with road repairs, trench excavation, backfilling, and installation of temporary fencing.
• Operate mechanized hand pumps, waste‑collection equipment, and loading mechanisms on waste‑division packer units.
• Collect and distribute mail, deliver divisional literature, and act as a public messenger.
• Support water‑treatment plant debris screens and regulate facility thermostatic controls.

Required profile

• Valid State of Ohio driver’s license preferred for operating City‑owned vehicles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to the City’s guiding principles.

Required skills

• Operation of mechanized hand pumps and other municipal equipment.
• Minor mechanical equipment repairs.
• Operation of non‑CDL licensed trucks and loading mechanisms.
