Safety Engineer - Functional Safety

About the role

NXP's Functional Safety Competence Center is looking for a Safety Engineer in Bangalore to help develop safety-compliant semiconductor products. The role defines, analyzes and validates safety concepts and architectures, develops safety requirements and performs safety analyses, working with implementation, systems, hardware and software teams to deliver certifiable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop functional and technical safety concepts based on product architecture, technology and intended functionality.
• Contribute to capturing and managing requirements using requirements management tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement safety concepts consistently and effectively.
• Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels, including FTA, DFA and FMEDA.
• Support the definition and review of safety verification and validation strategies.
• Contribute to safety audits, assessments and internal reviews.
• Support customers in integrating and applying NXP safety products, including tailored solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 5-8 years of experience in semiconductor product development with exposure to functional safety.
• Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures and of IP and SoC-level safety mechanisms.
• Understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 and their development lifecycles and work products.
• Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA and FMEDA.
• Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and global teams.

Preferred

• Functional safety design and development experience in Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
• Broad semiconductor product development exposure (IP design, verification, DFT, physical implementation, tools and methodologies).
• Hands-on experience with safety analysis and modeling tools such as Medini.
• Experience in safety audits, assessments and certification.
• Familiarity with requirements management tools such as ELM7.
