Principal Software Engineer – Real Time Payments

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mission‑critical Real‑Time Payments (RTP) platforms. You will work on high‑volume, low‑latency services that support instant account‑to‑account payments across multiple global markets.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architecture and detailed design of RTP products and platform capabilities.
• Define and enforce reference architectures, design patterns, and engineering standards such as microservices, event‑driven architecture, and domain‑driven design.
• Build, test, and maintain high‑quality software components that meet performance, scalability, reliability, security, and observability requirements.
• Lead technical design reviews and ensure alignment with enterprise and RTP architectural principles.
• Make critical implementation decisions and drive non‑functional excellence across the product lifecycle.

Required profile

• Senior individual contributor with deep hands‑on experience in building large‑scale, resilient systems.
• Proven ability to own complex services or subsystems from concept to production.
• Strong technical leadership, capable of influencing architecture and product design.
• Commitment to high code quality, maintainability, and continuous improvement.
