Principal Engineer - Primary Substation

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead Primary Substation design within its Transmission & Distribution team in India. The role offers the chance to work on high‑impact energy projects worldwide while developing deep technical expertise in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of primary engineers and technical specialists delivering AIS/GIS substation designs.
• Prepare detailed designs, short‑circuit and fault‑current analyses, sag‑tension calculations, busbar sizing, and equipment protection schemes.
• Design earthing, grounding, and lightning‑protection systems and integrate HVDC/HVAC converter stations.
• Develop transformer layouts, oil containment, busduct routing, and secondary system interfaces.
• Coordinate civil foundations, steel structures, and cable routing with multidisciplinary teams.
• Produce equipment specifications, BOMs, procurement support, and technical reports for client bids.

Required profile

• Master of Engineering (or equivalent) in an electrical discipline.
• 12‑15 years of experience in high‑voltage (132 kV‑400 kV) grid substation design.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Proven experience leading large design teams in a global consultancy.
