Principal Back-End Engineer

About the role

Coupang Eats Engineering builds products and services for customers, restaurants, couriers, and internal operations. As a senior technical leader, you will drive cross‑team initiatives critical to business growth while ensuring engineering excellence and building scalable, fault‑tolerant systems.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to ensure scalable, fault‑tolerant systems across Eats Engineering.
• Develop and execute technical strategy and roadmap with senior leadership and product owners.
• Drive mission‑critical projects, collaborating with stakeholders to solve complex business problems.
• Own architecture plans, apply best‑practice design patterns, and simplify the system landscape.
• Mentor and coach engineers on architecture, design, and engineering best practices.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience building B2C scale products, preferably with Java and AWS.
• 7+ years in technical leadership roles, driving vision and execution at a business‑unit level.
• Hands‑on experience designing, building, and delivering highly available services.
• Strong communication skills and a data‑driven, high‑ownership mindset.
• Bachelor/Master/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
