Mechanical Engineer – Tyre Management (HEMM)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer specialized in tyre management to support Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) across mining sites. The role focuses on monitoring tyre condition, pressure, and performance to minimise downtime and optimise operating costs.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor tyre wear, tread depth, damage and overall condition of HEMM equipment.
• Conduct regular tyre pressure inspections and ensure correct inflation according to OEM recommendations.
• Track and optimise TKPH (Ton‑Kilometre Per Hour) to keep tyres within design limits.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly tyre performance, consumption and life reports.
• Identify premature tyre failures, perform root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Improve tyre life through rotation, matching, alignment, balancing and maintenance practices.
• Increase tyre retrading utilisation to extend service life and reduce costs.
• Inspect haul roads and coordinate with Mining, Operations and Maintenance teams to enhance tyre performance.
• Maintain tyre inventory, casing records, retrading status and scrap disposal.
• Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for inspections, warranty claims and technical support.
• Train site tyre teams on inspection, pressure maintenance, safe handling and reporting.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering or related field.
• 4–7 years experience in tyre management, OTR tyre maintenance or HEMM maintenance within the mining industry.
• Strong knowledge of OTR tyres, tyre pressure management systems, TKPH and retrading practices.
• Familiarity with OEM standards, tyre performance analysis and mining operations.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting tools.
