Mechanical Engineer – Site Based

About the role

Gradiant, a leader in advanced water and wastewater treatment, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work on‑site at its Chennai facility. The role focuses on ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation of all mechanical assets across treatment plants.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve reliability of rotating equipment such as centrifugal, dosing, submersible and screw pumps, blowers, air compressors, agitators, mixers, gearboxes, centrifuges and sludge dewatering systems.
• Maintain static equipment including pressure vessels, storage tanks, clarifiers, thickeners, filter presses, piping, valves, strainers and heat exchangers.
• Develop and execute preventive, predictive and condition‑based maintenance programs; ensure 100% compliance with schedules.
• Lead troubleshooting of pump, seal, bearing, vibration, gearbox and piping failures; conduct root‑cause and failure‑mode analyses.
• Maintain key treatment systems (RO, UF, MBR, ZLD, ATFD, MEE, crystallizers, ion exchange, degasification) and associated equipment.
• Monitor equipment health trends, improve MTBF/MTTR, and manage asset registers and maintenance logs.
• Identify critical spares, manage inventory levels and raise material requisitions.

Required profile

• Technical background in mechanical engineering, preferably with experience in water or wastewater treatment plants.
• Proven ability to implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Strong analytical skills for condition monitoring and root‑cause analysis.
• Experience handling both rotating and static equipment in industrial environments.
